While canoeing a 150-mile stretch of the Thelon River in the N. W. T., our group spotted a herd of musk ox feeding along the sand dunes ahead.
Sneaking behind the dunes, we moved in a peeked over the top. Immediately, the group formed their defense formation around the three calves.
After a few minutes of mutual observation, the animals began to ease and spread out continuing to feed on the dune vegetation.
